Programs - Street School. The World Is Our Classroom. The World Is Our Classroom theme provides students the opportunity to learn through real life experiences. Field trips, wilderness adventures, internships, and community service learning outreach programs are ongoing for the entire school year. Students meet regularly with their assigned counselor for individual and group therapy. Counselors become a lifeline to the student and are often the trusted source exposing them to essential community resources, college applications and opportunities beyond high school. Students participating in the First- Offender Program have been identified by law enforcement or the courts as having committed acts that do not warrant adjudication, but require intervention with a focus on preventing future offenses. The program enables individuals to resolve conflicts positively; assume responsibility and realize consequences for their actions. Participants gain a clear understanding and insight into peer pressure and impulsive behavior. This program is only for first offenders under the age of 1. HIV/AIDS and Teen Pregnancy Prevention and Community Outreach Program. In Street School’s HIV/AIDS and Teen Pregnancy Prevention and Community Outreach Program, students are trained as peer educators. Students are taught how to speak to their peers, and make presentations about pregnancy prevention, while raising awareness of HIV, AIDS, STDs, abstinence and the need for young people to practice safe sex if they are having sex. HIV Prevention & Care. Open door internship program; Life Skills Counseling for HIV-Positive Individuals. Street smart; How to Love. Street Smart is a 10-session. An Opt-Out Approach to HIV Screening; Developing a Prevention Program. Reductions in HIV risk among runaway youth. Life circumstances define risk for some youth; being runaway or homeless, gay, or a sex offender increases the potential for risky behavior.
